Truth and Reconciliation week
Wapikoni adheres to the Every Child Matters awareness movement, fully sharing its values of solidarity and education.
We have been working closely with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation since 2020 on its Truth and Reconciliation Week, a pan-Canadian awareness-raising event.
This year, in addition to contributing awareness-raising activities to the NCTR’s event thanks to the participation of artists from our collective and a selection of their works, Wapikoni is teaming up with the Télé-Québec en classe platform to offer content for Quebec educators.
FOR EDUCATORS:
Our partners are offering many possibilities if you wish to raise awareness about Indigenous realities and cultures in the classroom:
- Wapikoni’s work will be available September 26–30 (and also afterwards) via the Télé-Québec en classe platform in a full and varied five-theme programming. Access is free but requires an account. To register and access the content, click here. A Facebook event will also feature news and dedicated content.
- Wapikoni’s work will be included in the National Truth and Reconciliation Centre programming. You can register your class for virtual discussions and workshops on available topics. The programming can be found here.
Wapikoni Teaching Guide: Discover the Diversity of Indigenous Nations, Cultures and Expressions in Canada.
In collaboration with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, Wapikoni has created a teaching guide for the UNESCO Schools Network.
In doing so, we want to encourage high school teachers to discuss with their students topics that touch on Indigenous cultures in Canada. This educational tool was designed to offer turnkey content that can be adapted to the students’ level and the subject being taught.
We selected 12 short films produced by Wapikoni and directed by Indigenous people from across the country that are linked to the themes in the guide. In this way, these filmmakers to share their vision, and that of their community, on Indigenous topics and issues.
You can now download the Wapikoni teaching guide using the form below. Please note that the teaching sheets and films are not included, as our team will need to accompany you in using the guide with the works.
